The story of Cadence

In brief, Cadence helps users become more focused with customizable Pomodoro-style timers. This technique uses work/break cycles to help people maintain productive sessions and avoid burnout. These cycles are usually divided into 25 minutes of work followed by 5-minute breaks but can be adjusted to fit individual needs.

I have been using the Pomodoro technique on and off for more than 10 years after a friend in college introduced it to me. It is not a silver bullet for productivity, but it has helped me sufficiently over the years to continue using it, especially when working on not-so-interesting tasks.

I have used (and paid for) so many Pomodoro tools that I can’t even remember half of them at this point. There are a ton of apps and browser extensions but none did the job for me. The closest one to meeting my needs was the “Be Focused” app but it had a few major drawbacks that made it unusable for me. It is available only for MacOS and I couldn’t customize the auto-start of breaks and sessions among other things.

These are the reasons I created Cadence. It is a simple yet customizable Pomodoro browser extension that perfectly suits my needs. There are extensive customizations, statistics, daily goals and website blocking during focus sessions. I released it in July 2025 and it currently has a modest but growing user base. I have been using it pretty much daily since then.
